Well, this is really embarrassing – I lost touch with this photo-blogging thing a year back and regret to the core being.. It’s exactly one year of my trip to Kashmir as I write this and want to remember it in a special way…
I dunno what to say about this place – however, I title it ‘Close to heaven’ – Gulmarg. Appx. 50 KM from Srinagar, this place is a small hill station in Baramula district of J&K. It has been rated as Asia’s seventh best Ski Destination. There’s a ‘Ropeway’ to his heaven – Gondola – the second highest in the world reaching height of ~4000m – that is highest I have been in my life!!!
Just near the left corner of the picture above – one can spot a small tent – a small example of the extreme military presence in this region. It’s easy to get desensitized and enjoy the heavenly surrounding when greeted and welcomed by the army men.
The whole landscape is covered with snow during Dec – Feb each year, and is open to tourists for western-style ski trips. Other months are as good if you like a little less adventure and just enjoy being in the arms of heaven.
Well that completes my Kashmir Diaries - exactly a year after being there...
